How it started

June 22, 2010

When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I did what any registered nurse would do. I spent a couple of months changing my diet and trying to exercise and then – as nothing seemed to have changed much – I decided to ignore it all in the hope it would go away!!

I’m telling you this because I want you to realise that I know that living with a chronic condition does not necessarily mean that you always want to do anything about it!

I was a dermatology nurse specialist for over 5 years and took a Diploma in dermatology nursing during that time. I spent this time talking to people with psoriasis and eczema, treating their skin with phototherapy and helping them learn how to care for their skin in order to minimise the problems these conditions caused. I left the National Health Service because it became impossible for me to deliver the service to which I believe patients are entitled. I have been wondering how I can use my knowledge and skills to reach people and this blog is my attempt to do that.

I hope to post information about the best ways to care for your skin when you have eczema or psoriasis and to provide other posts about the conditions and their variations.

It will take me a while to write about each subject in depth, but my next post will start with the basics of skin care that are common to both eczema and psoriasis sufferers.
